Railway employees were demanding to change the designation of the guard since 2004. The reasoning behind this was that the job of the guard is not just to show the flag and torch for the signal. According to the order of the Railways, now Senior Passenger Guard – Senior Passenger Train Manager. Assistant Guard will now be Assistant Passenger Train Manager while Goods Guard will now be called Goods Train Manager, Senior Goods Guard will now be called Senior Goods Train Manager and Mail/Express Guard will now be called Mail/Express Train Manager.
